ALISON T. SEYMOUR, INC.
Alison T. Seymour, Inc. was founded in 1949 by Mark and Alison Seymour. Interested in
international trade, Mark visited a local consul's office in Seattle and found "sisal" on a list of products being produced in Europe but not
currently being exported to the United States. He sent for samples; what he received was oddly colored and strictly utilitarian carpet, but it was
made from a very interesting fiber.
Over the next few years Mark and Alison, working closely with others involved in the burgeoning Scandinavian furniture business and a mill called
Nedcos in Holland, created new weaves and colorations in sisal more suitable for the American architectural and design community and, in the process,
introduced an entirely new kind of floor and wall covering to the U.S. market.
Alison T. Seymour is still a family owned and operated company and continues to be an innovator in the U.S. market.
